Guillain-Barre Syndrome Mimicked by Spinal Stenosis in A Case of Chronic Prolapsed Intervertebral Disc: A Case Report

Background: Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is a rare acute autoimmune polyneuropathy, usually preceded by infections. It can be difficult to diagnose, especially in patients with underlying neurological comorbidities. Case: A 54-year-old male, long history of prolapsed intervertebral disc, presented progressive and asymmetrical onset tetraparesthesia for 4 weeks, which was associated paraparesis 2 weeks. The diagnosis GBS initially missed due lack relevant prior infection, atypical presentation (asymmetrical limb weakness), radiological evidence spinal stenosis. Nerve conduction study, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, antiganglioside antibodies later confirmed the GBS. patient started on intravenous immunoglobulin achieved significant improvement. He discharged week transferred rehabilitation hospital. Conclusion: should not excluded diagnostic tests lab work patients. Physicians avoid over-reliance findings conclude diagnosis.
